More of the same? No worries!

Diversity is one of the reasons that I love living in Australia. Even when we for a couple of years were stuck here, not able to visit family and friends overseas, I still felt privileged to be “quarantined” in this challenging and wonderful country.

Where else do you meet such diversity?

In 2021, there were over 7.5 million migrants living in Australia. This was 29.1% of the population that were born overseas. Every single country from around the world was represented in Australia’s population.

This blows my mind. Every single country around the world is represented here. Access to cultures and languages at my doorstep. Wow.

I know and experience it every day: our diverse choir, the broad range of colleagues, the varied nationalities in our street. Lots of communities with all the extra value and challenges that diversity brings.

Look around. Have you gathered “more of the same” around you? No worries – well, literally: less worries right here and now. I get it.

But it may be worrying for the long haul.

If your ratio of diversity (however you define it) is on the low side – maybe, it’s time to accept the small worries and welcome the massive rewards of diversifying?
